Brett Payne, MA, MDiv

Spiritual Life Coach

Brett has a gentle way of helping you to understand and process your emotional, internal, and spiritual experiences to grow in your relational health with yourself, God, and others. Walking you through the events and experiences of your life, Brett will help you to see how they impacted you emotionally and how your interpretation of them influences the way you live in the present. Specializing in the use of the Enneagram personality profile (WEPSS), Brett will help you to see some of what is the truest about who you are and what you offer. He will help you to navigate these challenges and opportunities. Whether you are in a transition, feeling stuck or desiring a deeper relationship with God or others, Brett will help you learn how to discern your internal reality and to do this in light of scripture and the presence of Christ. Jesus taught us that all the law and the prophets can be summed up as loving God and loving others as ourselves. Brett will help you discover more fully how greatly God loves you and the beautiful gift of your true self in Christ that you have to offer others.

A little about me … I grew up a professor’s kid in Oxford, Ohio. After finishing a degree in history at Miami University, I married Susan and went to Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where I studied Church History. In later years, I also finished an M.Div. Church Music at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. I have had a consistent and passionate interest in Christian spirituality and spiritual formation and have served in a variety of capacities as a pastor and worship leader in churches for almost twenty-five years. I am thrilled to serve as a full-time spiritual life coach. I am also deeply grateful that Susan and I are able to lead a ministry of Spiritual Formation called Rhythms for Life Soul Care. Our son, Alex, is pursuing a PhD with the Tri-Institutional Program in Chemical Biology in NYC and is enjoying life in the Upper East Side. Our quirky and comedic dog, Rolo, is interning as a (non-accredited) therapy dog and has a full-time job as our beloved family pet.

A little about me … I have had great experiences residing in and enjoying the food, sights and culture of Detroit, Michigan; Oxford, Ohio; Washington, DC; Boston, Massachusetts; Huntington Beach, California; Louisville, Kentucky; Sheffield, England; Hiroshima, Japan and now in our home in Chester County, PA … though I am still a midwest girl at heart! I am passionate about living in community and have enjoyed leading small groups and training leaders from coast to coast. Off the clock, I recharge through practicing yoga, baking, reconnecting with friends and family, enjoying deep belly laughs, and getting lost in the beauty of God’s creation. Brett and I have been married for over 30 years and are deeply grateful to be doing what we do, together, including groups, retreats and spiritual formation seminars. I also have conversational ASL (sign language) skills and enjoy being active in our church’s Deaf community. A little about me… I spent many hours exploring Southeast Asia, the Appalachian Trail, and many lakes and rivers. An adventurer at heart, I have enjoyed the challenges of backpacking, canoeing, and hiking for days and sometimes weeks. Born and raised in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, I have a deep love for the outdoors and exploration of forests, mountains, and rivers. When I step away from work, I love to go to my local gym, spend time with family and friends, and explore small towns, always looking for the best cup of coffee. I am curious about life, which eventually led me back to school to follow my love of people, culture, and learning. The curiosity that led me on countless worldwide treks continues to guide me as I seek to understand the depths of relational needs in every person I encounter.

Rolo

Emotional Support Dog Intern

Rolo has a comedic way of bringing his own quirky personality into every interaction. As a young pup, Rolo was a little anxious, especially when alone, around big dogs, or during car rides. He brings this sensitivity and experience into sessions and can be very empathetic when clients are feeling big emotions. Rolo believes lying down at people’s feet or jumping into their lap for a warm snuggle promotes comfort and peace. In his spare time, he enjoys sniffing his way through new trails, playing fetch, and lounging upside down on the couch.
